Ilarosia

Two worlds share one sky.

Begin on the moonlit shores of the Pearl Lake, where the white city of Asumeri floats on its own reflection. Then set out with your friends across five continents, by road and sea, through portals, and one day on wings.

Being built as a native desktop game for Windows, macOS and Linux

Ilarosia at a glance

  • Two worlds, five continents

Andral, the old home world, and Amarel, its luminous sister hanging in the sky. Each has its own kingdoms, capitals and peoples.

  • Everything, together

Every quest, story scene and dungeon is made for a full party, with progress and rewards shared by everyone in it.

  • Real free flight

Ride on the ground first. Later, flying mounts carry you anywhere outdoors, over open sea and into the capitals themselves.

The world

Two sister worlds

Andral is the old, settled home world: green heartlands, sun-baked canyons and polar fjords. In its sky hangs Amarel, a vast jade-and-silver disc, younger and luminous, with moon lakes, floating rock, titan trees and the cradle of the dragons.

Illustrated map of Amarel: Senmara in the north-west, Valdora in the east, and the Lantern Shoals between them on the Silver Sea Moonlake
Illustrated map of Andral: the long continent of Talmaren in the west, Torvalen in the north-east, Orvessa in the south-east and the Ambrel Isles between them

Amarel · Continent

Senmara

A broad, luminous land around the inland Moon Sea: a pearl palace on a mirror lake, storms of blossom, lantern-lit deltas, jade water terraces, a spirit forest, silver kite steppe and peaks above a sea of cloud.

Every people has its own homeland and starting land, but any character may begin in any of them, or follow a friend's invitation straight to their side.

The first starting land

Moonlake

A white ring of shore around a silver mirror, between a pale sea coast and a vale of pink blossom. Moonlake is the homeland of the Velunari, and guests of every people begin their journey here.

    The Moonrise Rite

Each year the Moon Court opens the Moonward Shrine to guests of every people who answer the Empress's invitation. You arrive on the pilgrim ships and stand on the Moonrise Terrace, your party beside you, as the great moon lifts out of the sea.

  2. A busy white harbour at sunset, with a tall ship, red lacquer gates and travellers of many peoples unloading cargo

    The Moonward Shore

Chalk-and-pearl cliffs over the Moon Ocean, a crescent bay of pale sand and silver-grass meadows. Below the shrine lies the pilgrim harbour of the Crescent Landing, where the court's guides welcome every newcomer.

    03

    The Willow Weald

Groves of great dome-shaped silver willows trail their curtains into clear shallow water, crossed by stepping stones and lantern posts. In the Moth Glade, moon moths the size of kites sleep through the day.

  4. A party crosses toward a high arched moon-bridge over a silver lake, with the white palace city rising beyond
    Concept art · The Moon-Bridges

    04

    The Pearl Lake

Glass-flat silver water, lotus beds and lantern boats. High arched moon-bridges link three white isles, and near the south-west shore the pale roofs of a drowned palace still show beneath the surface.

  5. Travellers walk through a round moon-gate in a white wall, pink petals falling, toward the lake and the palace
Concept art · The Moonveil Gardens

    05

    The Moonveil Gardens

The forbidden old palace gardens: clipped hedges grown wild into great round shapes, moon-gates in long white walls, still mirror pools, and the first pink petals drifting in from the blossom vale next door.

  6. At night, a party watches translucent blue spirits in court robes drift through a misty drowned town of moon-gates

    The Sunken Quarter

Misty fens over the drowned outer town of the first palace, where roofs and moon-gates rise from mist-white water. By night a ghost procession walks the lantern pillars of the Drowned Avenue.

The great capital

Asumeri

A long, low white city of silver-blue roofs and red lacquer pillars, climbing in crescent tiers from the quays to the seven-tiered Moon Palace, all of it doubled in the still water of the lake.

  • The Moonward Axis

The city's one straight street, from the Water Stair on the bay up the palace terraces to the round Hall of the Full Moon.

  • The Pearl Exchange

Market and auction house on its crescent square by the quays.

  • The Court of Mirrors

A round mirrored hall alone on its isle in the lake, for councils, petitions and intrigue.

  • The Sky-Ray Terrace

The high terrace where travellers from the other world land.

A people of the moon

The Velunari

Court poets, astronomers and lunar mages who believe a true thing shows itself in its reflection. They prize grace, memory and composure. They are beautiful, and secretive: what their court leaves unsaid matters as much as what it says.

Four Velunari with moon-blue skin and long white hair: an armoured guardian with a round mirror-shield, a swordswoman in a lacquered breastplate, a healer with a crescent lantern staff, and a mage holding pale violet fire

How to know them

  • Tall and lean, with long necks and long limbs
  • Long ears, swept back and slightly up
  • Skin from moon-blue to lilac
  • Crescent markings on cheek, brow and collarbone that glow brighter with emotion and at moonrise
  • Long white or silver hair, worn high with crescent ornaments
  • Eyes of pale violet to silver

Dressed for the path they walk

Velunari guide their guests as a duty of courtesy, and their court has long welcomed travellers of every people.

Bestiary

Creatures of the moon lake

Pale, silvery and a little strange. Not every creature in Moonlake wants a fight, and the one everybody remembers is a friend.

Signature creature · Friendly

Moon-hares

Round little hares the size of a cat, with silver-white fur, a pale crescent on the brow and extra-long ears whose tips glow lantern-gold. They hop in small flocks and sit up on their haunches to watch the moon.

Moon-hares are never prey. At dusk, sit with a frightened hare as a party and offer it a moon-lotus petal. When everyone is calm and still, it may trust you all, and lead you somewhere hidden.

Group play

Made to be played together

Ilarosia is a classic MMORPG at heart, and everything in it is built for a party.

Concept art · Arriving in Asumeri by the Water Stair
  • Shared progress, always

Every quest step, interaction and reward counts for the whole party. Story scenes are played together, and nobody is pulled into a solo instance.

  • Start beside your friends

Pick any starting land at creation, whatever your people, or follow a friend's invitation and begin right next to them.

  • No opposing sides

There are no rival player factions. Everyone can group with everyone.

  • One world for everyone

All players share a single world, with no realms or servers to choose between.

Travel

Take to the skies

Walk first, then ride. Later in your journey, flying mounts give you real, free flight: everywhere outdoors, out over the open sea, and even through the capitals, whose terraces and roofs are made for landing.

Between the worlds

Great sky-rays carry travellers between the great capitals of Andral and Amarel. In Asumeri they settle on the Sky-Ray Terrace, high above the lake.

Portals and hidden ways

Every capital keeps a portal ring of violet light. Others are hidden, waiting for those who explore.

What we're building

Ilarosia is being made right now. Everything on this page is concept art and design intent: it shows where we are heading, not finished game footage, and details will change as the world takes shape. There is no release date yet.

  1. A classic MMORPG

Quests, mounts, an auction house and a proper inventory, built as first-class systems from the start.

  2. Your own way to fight

No fixed classes. Combine disciplines into a build that is yours.

  3. One currency, no pay-to-win

A single in-game currency, with no premium currency layered on top.

  4. Bright anime fantasy

A bright, high-definition anime world with luminous skies, and darker places where the story calls for them.

  5. Every border a reveal

Neighbouring lands contrast strongly, and every crossing between them is framed as a view to remember.

  6. Native on your desktop

Planned first for Windows, macOS and Linux, as a native game rather than a browser game.

See you at moonrise

The lanterns are lit over the Pearl Lake, and the moon court is expecting guests.
